SMETA 4 PILLAR

SMETA (Sedex Members Ethical Trade Audit) is the world’s most widely used social compliance audit methodology, developed by Sedex to evaluate ethical practices in supply chains. It assesses four key pillars: Labour Standards (aligned with the ETI Base Code and ILO conventions), Health & SafetyEnvironmental Impact, and Business Ethics. A 2-Pillar SMETA audit focuses on labor and health/safety, while a 4-Pillar audit includes environment and ethics. SMETA helps businesses identify risks, implement corrective actions, and improve working conditions.

The ETI (Ethical Trading Initiative) is a UK-based alliance promoting workers’ rights through its ETI Base Code, which sets labor standards based on international principles. SMETA audits use the ETI Base Code as a benchmark, ensuring compliance with fair wages, safe workplaces, and no forced labor. While SMETA is the audit framework, ETI provides the ethical standards it measures against.

Business Ethics Plan

Expanding upon our SQF Module 2 Supplier Approval, Food Fraud, and Food Defense plans, we now also ensure those with whom we do business are also compliant. Oversight, routine inspections and research ensure that the food we deliver is sourced responsibly and ethically. This includes monitoring for child labor and environmental hazards. While we are storage and distribution and do not manufacturer or produce products, we are a key chain in the supply hub from Farm to Table. We do our part to ensure it is safe.
