White button mushrooms are generally small to medium in size are attached to short stems. When raw, White button mushrooms have a mild taste with a crisp texture, and when they’re cooked, they take on an earthy flavor with a chewy, tender texture. White button mushrooms are a good source of potassium, selenium, amino acids, vitamin D, riboflavin, phosphorus, zinc, folate, and manganese. White button mushrooms can be used in both raw and cooked preparations as well as being used as a substitute in recipes that call for cremini mushrooms. White button mushrooms are most commonly sliced raw and added to salads or cooked and added to sauces, gravies or as a topping on pizza. They can be stored for up to a week in a paper bag or stored in a bowl covered with moist paper towels in the refrigerator.
