Description
Jicama is a starchy root vegetable, native to Mexico, that is used throughout South American cuisine. It has a rough brown skin and a juicy, crisp, inner that has a texture similar to an uncooked potato and a taste often compared to Water Chestnuts. This root vegetable is a great source of Vitamin C, fiber, potassium, and Inulin, a prebiotic that supports healthy digestion. The outer skin is generally too thick to peel so it is recommended to be cut away with a sharp knife. Jicama is often used in salads or side dishes for added texture and flavor. You can store whole Jicama in a dry and cool environment for up to 3 weeks. Once cut, you can cover tightly with plastic wrap, and store in the refrigerator for up to one week.
