Spiced Red Wine Poached Bosc Pears

Ingredients:

  • 4 ripe but firm Bosc pears, peeled, stems intact
  • 1 bottle (750ml) red wine
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 2 star anise
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Optional: orange peel or cloves

Instructions:

  1. In a saucepan, combine wine, sugar, cinnamon, star anise, vanilla, and optional aromatics. Bring to a simmer.
  2. Add pears and cover. Simmer 20–25 minutes, turning occasionally.
  3. Remove pears and boil remaining liquid until slightly thickened.
  4. Serve pears drizzled with the warm wine syrup.
